This book passed through my Bindery Briefly.  1st Edition, Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup, 1853.  Note the dates on the title page, the book was printed they same year he was rescued.

Hand bound 1/4 leather spine with hand made marble papers on side, blank journal.

This binding not only had age damage but had been glued up with what looks like a library repair with an inflexible glue.  A lot of time has to go into removing all of that glue inside and out.  Permanent damage to the spine but I do what I can to retain as much of the original.
